Course Description: A year-long, introductory course that introduces students to the shop, including learning about safety, wood working tools, and machinery. Students make small projects such as name plates, picture frames, and a pen. Yr 2 - Furniture Design History & Construction 1A/1BPrerequisites: Introduction to Wood Working 1A/1B
Course Description: Year-long courses that build upon what the students learned in the introductory class, but with an emphasis on furniture-design and manufacturing. Students use their creativity while exploring the many elements that make fine furniture unique and artistic. Throughout the year, students will make fine, contemporary furniture using an art perspective (such as curves, working with various grains) to build tables, chairs, or item of choice. Projects are proudly displayed at the end of the year in the quad for all to see, then taken home to enjoy! Yr 3 - Advanced Cabinetry Design 1A/1BPrerequisites: Introduction to Wood Working 1A/1B and Furniture Design History & Construction
Course Description: This year-long course teaches advanced wood-working skills in the area of cabinet manufacturing. Students learn to build small cabinets and the elements in a mass-production manufacturing facility. Students also learn entrepreneurial skills needed to own and operate their own business. Skills taught include basic finance, business management, marketing, and key industry standards so students have a starting point to launch their own business or have the basic knowledge of a small operation when entering the work force.. * = Meets California UC's a-g requirements
